Savotta magazine pouches: 1-mag and 2-mag

The 1-mag pouch, AR15-AK (from 29,90€) holds one 30-round AR15 PMAG or one AK magazine. Savotta designed it around a PMAG with a Ranger Plate and the Finnish RK magazine. It fits a chest rig or plate carrier as easily as a belt.

The lid closes in two positions. The high one is for curved AK magazines, and the low one suits the shorter AR15 mags. The low setting also takes a Glock 17 without a light or optic. Savotta itself admits that doesn't turn the pouch into a holster.

The 2-mag pouch, AR15 (from 34,90€) carries two 30-round AR15 magazines. It also takes a single 20-round AR10 or HK417 mag, a radio, a smoke grenade or an IFAK insert. An elastic cord around the outside lets you tighten the pouch around whatever is inside.

Both lids close with a tuck tab and hook-and-loop. The tab stays reliable in mud and cold, and the hook-and-loop keeps the lid shut when the pouch is half empty. A sewn-in piece of loop covers the hook side when you need to stay quiet. The bottoms are reinforced, because that's where mag pouches usually wear through first.

Savotta Zipped GP pouch: 2×2, 3×3 or 3×4?

The name tells you how much PALS webbing the pouch takes up on your kit. All three are made from lined 1000D Cordura. Inside you get elastic loops and a tie-down point, and a grommet at the bottom lets water drain out.

  • Zipped GP pouch 2×2 (from 34,90€): about 0.65 litres, for a multitool, a lighter, cord and spare batteries.
  • Zipped GP pouch 3×3 (45,90€): about 1.8 litres, with a flat internal compartment and PALS on both sides.
  • Zipped GP pouch 3×4 (from 52,90€): about 2.45 litres. It fits a bottle and cup, small optics or three to four rifle mags.

Pick the 2×2 for small items you would otherwise lose in a pocket. It takes a basic first aid kit, but not a tourniquet or larger dressings. Pick the 3×3 or 3×4 when you want to hang more pouches off the sides.

Savotta dump pouch and tourniquet pouch

The Dump pouch (from 34,90€) swallows four to five rifle magazines. It's cut long enough to keep 30-round AK and RK mags from bouncing out. A stiff rim holds the opening in shape, and a shock-cord collar lets you make it wider or tighter. When you don't need it, the pouch folds into a small bundle on just two PALS columns.

The Tourniquet pouch (from 25,90€) fits most common tourniquets, from the SOFTT-W and CAT Gen 7 to the SAM XT. Elastic sides adjust to the thickness, and the hook-and-loop lid adjusts to the length. Two One-Wrap straps come in the box if you want to mount it horizontally on a belt.

Savotta Trinket Pouch for loop panels

The Trinket Pouch, Hook Back (from 14,90€) is a see-through mesh pouch with hook fabric on the back. It sticks to any loop panel inside a pack, on a plate carrier or in a vehicle. The zip runs from corner to corner, so the whole pouch opens up.

It comes in three sizes: 10×15, 15×20 and 20×30 cm. Use it for chargers, a wash kit and anything else that tends to sink to the bottom of a backpack. Savotta also lists socks and underwear among the intended uses, which is refreshingly honest.

Savotta Griffin sling: MOD or MW?

Savotta originally designed the Griffin sling for a special military client. Both versions are two-point slings on 25 mm webbing that fits most sling swivels. The key part is Savotta's own aluminium slider. It has no moving parts, and the grip tab still works with winter gloves on. Pull it forward to lengthen the sling.

  • Griffin Sling MOD (64,90€): a removable foam pad that slides along the sling. Spare webbing tucks inside the pad, so you don't need to cut or burn it.
  • Griffin sling MW (44,90€): a thinner sewn-on pad for medium-weight carbines and rifles.

Pick the MOD if you want to set the pad where your shoulder actually is, or run the sling without it. Pick the MW if you want a slim padded sling with no loose parts.

Add the Slinghook, 25 mm (8,90€) if you'd rather clip the sling on than thread it. It's an HK-style snap hook made for 1" webbing like the Griffin's.

Finnish gear, shipped from Helsinki

Savotta started in 1955 as a small leather workshop in Pylkönmäki. It made gloves and packs for loggers, and the name is the Finnish word for a logging site. The same family still runs the company, now from Karstula in Central Finland.

Everything is designed in Finland. The pouches and slings we stock are made in Finland and Estonia, and they come with a five-year warranty on materials and workmanship. The motto since day one has been "let's make these to endure".

From Karstula it's a short trip to our warehouse in Helsinki. From there we ship across the EU with VAT already in the price.

FAQ

Is Savotta gear used by the Finnish Defence Forces?

Savotta has worked with the Finnish Defence Forces since the 1960s. Most of the pouches and slings here also carry a NATO Stock Number (NSN), the code military supply systems use to order equipment.

Will Savotta pouches fit my plate carrier or belt?

Yes. They mount on standard PALS webbing with tuck tabs, so they go on a plate carrier, a chest rig or a MOLLE belt. The same straps also weave into belt loops for belts 45-50 mm wide.

What does good NIR performance mean?

Savotta says all its colour options perform well in near-infrared (NIR). In practice, the fabric shouldn't glow brightly through night vision. That keeps the pouch as hard to spot at night as it is in daylight.

Which colours do Savotta pouches come in?

Most of the pouches and the Griffin slings come in M05 Woodland, Green and Multicam. M05 Woodland is the camouflage pattern of the Finnish Defence Forces. Multicam usually costs a few euros more.

Do you ship Savotta across the EU?

Yes. We ship Savotta from our warehouse in Helsinki to the rest of the EU. VAT is included in the listed price, and there are no customs charges on deliveries inside the EU.
